starts with P and ends with X

That'd be promechx (pro-mek-ex). Our nic. One of them, anyway. There's also the pleasingly simple prosolar - which is what most people make of our somewhat awkardly long handle. I like PMX myself, but the similarity to dmx has been pointed out a number of times. I have tossed out the idea of dropping the prosolar and calling ourselves Mechanics, but Mike and Alex won't hear of it, given the "Mike and the Mechanics" issue. I understand, but still, I kind of like it.

That's the thing about having a name as long as "Prosolar Mechanics." People are always coming up with new references for you. But that's good - it means they talk about you often enough to need a nickname. There's a limit to how many times you're willing to go beyond two or three syllables when referring to something familiar.

Below the last post is a comment left by Mike F., whom I once nic'd McF. He's an old friend of ours gained through this endless pursuit of sound and places to make it. We met him plenty of years ago (my god, it might be over ten now, but who can consider it?) in New Hampshire when he set up a show with our old band ExVegas at a UNH dorm council show. He was such a sweet kid then - he was rather impressed with our firsthand knowledge of the 1980s and the bands we'd seen in person that existed in legend only by his college years.

He has undertaken a very amusing and sizeable task - he is reviewing every single one of his cds in alphabetical order. His blog is called Alphabetical and you should go read it. It's a great idea, well written and mighty entertaining. He also just finished reviewing his P's and there's a nice blurb there about Turn On - that ancient document of our set from 1997. (I honestly don't even know if I have a copy of it anymore, so if anyone has a copy and is willing to make mp3s for me, please let me know!) Also a nice trip down memory lane and the chronicles of our meeting and ensuing friendship. Thanks Mike (F)!
