 Sometimes

Sometimes I like wearing a hat inside the house for no god damned reason at all.

 Prosolar Mechanics Information Hub Redux

Out with the old, in with the new. Nothing like a cliché to contradict itself. That said, after some deliberation we're doing a little changeup on the ol' web site here. Until we think of something more interesting, we'll be running the PMX Subspace Communication Station (i.e. this blog) in its stead. This should get updated more regularly than the full site, proving we haven't disappeared entirely. Or at least proving the existence of ghosts. I dreamt some nasty ones last night, let me tell you. Stay tuned for information about upcoming shows and new releases, all of which will happen this year, as well as other random tidbits to aid your digestion of the sudden disappearance of the PMXIH2.x

This is Amy weighing in with my status report. I've been all too quiet this year.

I was very sad to realize that the last update to prosolarmechanics.com is from January 2003. 2003 was a hard year for the pmx; for me in particular. My best friend from high school was tragically killed in a bizarre accident last January and then in the spring my brother suffered with multiple hospitalizations for pneumonia and eventually ended up with a tracheotomy. My brother is very disabled (since he was 6 months old - he's now 36), only adding to the agony of the entire experience.

Those were unfortunately the defining experiences of 2003, which may help explain my long moratorium on self-expression. I called an old friend of mine to let him know our friend had died and I guess I kept saying, "I don't know what to do..." over and over again, like there is ever anything one can do in such circumstances. He said, "write a song about it." In any other circumstance I would argue that is a bad idea. Good song writing takes a controlled head and a heavy hand and grief-stricken is not the state I recommend for such endeavors. But in the end it worked rather well and our new song Intercession is the result. If you like you'll have the opportunity to hear it, hopefully in a live setting in the greater New York region, this year.

While the year may have been marked by painful ordeals, it hasn't been totally barren of creativity. In addition to writing new material, we've revisited some old favorites and made them much better. Those hoping to hear older material in a new prosolar mechanics set can look forward to Red Down the Middle, The Machine Cannot Forget, Water and Said To Nothing, although they certainly won't sound how you remember them. Trust me when I say this is a good thing. It's funny what time will do to your songwriting. I'll just leave it there and if you come see, you'll see.
